About Me

Hello, my name is Joe. I'm a senior multi-disciplinary designer and illustrator based in Adelaide, Australia.

I got interested in design when I began making comics in Wellington, New Zealand, in the early 2000s (see example on this page). I quickly discovered a fondness for combining words with pictures, despite resolutely doing things the “old fashioned way”– with fine liners, India ink and a borrowed photocopier.

Banging out paragraphs on a typewriter and using a second-hand Letraset specimen book to create headings, I discovered the joy of layout and physical copy/pasting. Deciding I’d rather like a career like this, I studied “proper computer” design at the National College of Design Technology in Auckland, before moving to Melbourne in 2008.

I have worked for one of Australia’s most well-known children’s brands, creating characters, repeat yardages, books and toys. I‘ve designed products including backpacks and lunchboxes, and create packaging solutions from blister cards to desktop calendar ice cream trucks.

I have a life-long fondness for games: both the video and the cardboard types. Recently I have had the good fortune to work in the gaming industry as a UI/UX Designer and 2D Artist.

I enjoy making model robots, and messing about with things that make interesting noises, such as guitars and synthesizers.

If you’d like to work on a project together, please get in touch!

Thanks for stopping by,

J.
