XR_ Learning Platform

XR_ Learning Platform UI/UX Design

Youth Inc. • 2026 • Figma & Adobe Illustrator

XR_ is an alternative online education platform for young people who may struggle with traditional learning environments. Taking cues from the gaming industry, students elect to study within their own areas of interest, earning points towards South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). I came on board to assist with branding, UI/UX design and general art.

User Avatar Creator • As part of an awareness campaign, we developed this fun and customisable character creator. Visitors to events could create their own unique character from various body parts, and then print them to a custom sticker.

User Avatar Creator: Avatars • Just some of the permutations possible from the character creator!

Student Stats UX: Desktop Viewport • A key component of the design philosophy for XR_ is to mirror systems and interactions young users would find familiar: namely by following patterns found in games. The Stats page above utilises a radar graph to show potential strengths and growth areas - these are tied into “Quests” in the form of short learning modules.

Map UX: Desktop Viewport • Likewise, the Quests a student can select are selected in a Map style interface, borrowing graphically from RPGs and action adventure games. Note this art is currently placeholder and does not represent the final product.

Quest UX: Detail Panels • One interesting challenge with the XR_ project was handling the level of detail for each Quest state. Larger Main Quests are broken up into smaller components (Side Quests) with completed tasks managed by an external Learning Management System. In instances where no Quests were selected, I have used Clippy’s long lost cousin, Tacky.

Draft UI • This screen represents a mid point in the design process, and includes some of the icons I’ve produced for the platform - these fall broadly into a ‘tech’ category, covering robotics, coding and 3D design.
